Description
This drawing is entitled "The Water Nymphs".
In Greek mythology, the Naiads (or Water Nymphs) were a type of nymph who presided over fountains, wells, springs, streams, and brooks. The essence of a naiad was bound to her spring, so if a naiad's body of water dried, she died. The Naiads were either daughters of Posidon or various Oceanids, but a genealogy for such ancient, ageless creatures is easily overstated. The water nymph associated with particular springs was known all through Europe in places with no direct connection with Greece, surviving in the Celtic wells of northwest Europe that have been rededicated to Saints, and in the medieval Melusine.

Thanks Gerald. This one (like the other single color works) was NOT done with colored pencil. I did the original in graphite and then just tinted the prints in Photoshop. Sometimes I think it might be interesting to go back and do a color version of these earlier works...but then again maybe it's better to move forward. By the way, thank you so much for all your positive feedback! Debra
